    Small chimney break-up

First a movie of horizontal tracer sections through this smaller (h=1500m, r=20km, N=10-3s-1, f=2x10-4s-1) deep convection chimney. What you see is the evolution of horizontal tracer from mid-way down the chimney. The smaller chimney radius leads to a more rapid restratification than in the case of the reference experiment.

    horizontal tracer MOVIE

Days 3, 7, 12 and 20 of our (h=1500m, r=20km, N=10-3s-1, f=2x10-4s-1) experiment. As for the reference experiment above, shown are -650m horizontal tracer fields and central north-south temperature sections (cint=0.1 degrees). The e-folding time in this case is around one day; t_r is around 12 days.
